The expression Uranian is an archaic term used to name homosexual men and is a loan word from the German language Urningtum, created in 1864 by the homosexual activist Karl Heinrich Ulrichs (1825-1895). This neologism of that time referred to the goddess Aphrodite Urania that appears in Plato’s Symposium as protective of homosexual love, and that would be the then so-called third sex.
Variations: Udders, Uranism, Uranianism, Urning.
