Lepakko

The Finnish word lepakko translated into the English language is the bat and it is a slang for lesbians. In this case, there is little information on the origin of the use of this word and the explanations are unconvincing. Some say lesbo word is difficult to pronounce in Finnish and that is why they used this slang, and others say that it is used by the phonetic similarity with lesbo. However, given its derogatory intention, the most likely is that refers to the physical appearance of lesbians since in other languages we find similar expressions as “dragoner” (dragon) of the German language. Check our article for the Lesbian Slang Collection to read more about this word.
