Tagalog is a language of Austronesian family, spoken in the Philippines where is official. It has about ninety million speakers worldwide.
The Philippines is one of the countries that more accept sexual diversity, probably because in pre-colonial times, homosexual behavior and transgender people were integrated into their culture. The colonization both Islamic and Christian and its rejection of diversity could cause a reinforcement in favor of diversity, although finally, 40 years of American occupation ended up establishing a negative view of homosexuality. This could explain that although the surveys show a great acceptance of homosexuality by the population, there have been no legislative changes that protect LGBT rights, or that the majority of respondents do not accept the equal marriage. The activism was developed from the 90s and so the first LGBT pride was held in 1994.

Binalaki is an expression of the Tagalog language that we could translate as a lesbian and even as a tomboy. It is an expression quite similar to the Binabae for men. Its first part, Bina-, translated into Spanish is to build, and the second, -laki, comes from lalake, which means man in Tagalog, so it would have the meaning of “made a man” as opposed to “being a man”.+
The word lesbya is the adaptation of the word lesbian to the Tagalog language.+
Tibo is an expression of the Tagalog language that is a slang of lesbian. Its literal translation would be a stinger, which denotes greater assertiveness and even aggressiveness for what Philippines society socially understand as a masculine woman.+
Tomboy is an English loan word commonly used to refer to lesbians. It would be the lesbian expression analogous to Bakla for men, in which sexual orientation and gender identity are mixed.
